Repertoire List

Although 2010 is still only 3 months old, the repertoire Trinity Band has tackled is large and varied.

For our New Year concert in February, we played:-

“H.M. Jollies”, a Kenneth Alford march

Emperor Waltz, by J. Strauss

Winter, an arrangement from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

Clarinet on the Town, a clarinet solo

Tijuana Brass, capturing the spirit of Herb Alpert

Carnival of the Animals, 5 movements of Saint-Saens famous suite

The Rose, Shamrock and Thistle, a medley of British tunes by J.P. Sousa, of all people!

My Grandfather’s Clock, a duet for piccolo and bassoon

Fantasy on an English Folk Song¸ a new composition by a Swiss arranger

Serenade from “Les Millions D’Arlequin” by Drigo

Bare Necessities, a comical euphonium solo

A Touch of Broadway, a medley of well-known show music

Fantasy on British Sea Songs, by Gordon Langford

Our next venture was the Band annual workshop in March, when we spent a day working on new music, 8 pieces all told.  These were:-

Light of the World, a transcription of a Salvation Army meditation

Overture to Candide by Bernstein

Serenade by Derek Bourgeois, with its tricky 11/8 and13/8 time signatures

Tanz, Floret Silva & Were diu Welt, from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff

March from “1941”, a tongue-in-cheek John Williams special!

The Kingdom Triumphant, another Salvationist transcription, written for the Royal Marines

March from Symphonic Metamorphoses by Paul Hindemith

Tribute to Stephen Foster, America’s great songsmith

The band so enjoyed this day that they asked that 4 of these pieces be included in our April 24th concert.  These are Candide, March from “1941”, The Kingdom Triumphant and Tribute to Stephen Foster.  To complement these numbers, the programme will include:-

Pearl Fishers’ Duet by Bizet, a duet for 2 flugelhorns

Tribute to Irving Berlin, a medley of his well-loved songs.

Rhythm of the Winds, an original composition by the American, Frank Erickson

Chess, excepts from the Andersson, Rice and Ulvaeus’ popular musical

Duet for Two Cats, Rossini’s witty duet transcribed for oboe and bassoon

The Padstow Lifeboat, Malcom Arnold’s descriptive march

March of the Slave Children, John Williams music from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

All Through the Night, a gentle rendering of this popular Welsh tune

A Copland Tribute, a selection from 3 of Aaron Copland’s compositions

Schindler’s List, John Williams theme from the film, performed as a clarinet solo

Pennsylvania 65000, Glen Miller’s big-band hit from the ‘40s

Finlandia, Sibelius’ great tone poem.

All but four of these pieces are brand-new to the band, though all contain music well-known and loved by audiences.

With 4 more formal concerts in 2010, the Band will maintain its traditions of variety and challenge – watch this space!
